I have to go to early Ray LaMontagne to find a parallel to the power of what is going on here with Dessie Magee. There’s the gravelly songbird baritone, and some great lyricism, with a similar ability to stay on the cool side of trying too hard; it’s just always a little bit effortless.

And beyond that, it’s clear that any room will be the merrier for having Dessie and a guitar in its midst. A bardic feature, with a voice of velvet: a true original.
