Color Fields, made up of members John Torres and Scott Packham, is a two-piece indie-pop group that mixes elements of r&b, rock, soul, and electronic music into a fresh and unique sound. "Animal" is the next single from their debut EP, which was recorded by Grammy-winning producers Jerry Wonda and Peter Katis.
"Animal" explores the social phenomenon of an artificially constructed persona, and what happens when that is stripped away - who are we when the mask comes off? A collaboration with producer Jerry Wonda brings this song even further out of its indie-rock roots, into a production crossover between hip-hop and rnb. A simmering slow-funk groove fuels the incremental breakdown from gentility to aggression, as a dynamic and delicate verse leads to a roaring chorus that exposes raw sensuality and a pledge of physical union.
The video concept for "Animal" was developed alongside director Adeola Alao with help from rotoscoping artist Lindsay Thompson, who contributed the hand drawn-wolf elements that feature towards the end. The video stars Alexander Mulzac and Maria del Mar, as well as the Color Fields duo performing live in a basement restaurant belonging to a friend of the band, while lead singer and guitarist John Torres created the animations that occur during the live performance. "Animal" is a sexy contribution to the debut EP from this duo which promises to be a scorcher.
