I love this classic tube-dirty guitar tone; the simple power of the verse sets up the double-pump of the chorus pocket, and all-around, the range of guitar sounds that are in use here is impressive. And somehow it feels like the exact right nuance to carry the vocal delivery; the clean lifts over the rhythmic fuzz.

Soon we get more overdrive, more energy, and some nice drum fills: it’s a live sound, but so impossibly well-mixed. The best of both worlds, really - you get that downtown magic from the club vibe, the amp stacks, the guitar solo; plus the meticulous sound of the Dumble in the closet that never leaves the studio. This is the open-eyed exploration of a turbulent memory in the visceral language of rock-and-roll.
