Indie singer and songwriter Andreas Vey is based out of Berlin, and recently released his debut single "The One" via Humming Records. This delicate piano ballad features an angelic, crystal-clear falsetto vocal that brings to mind the jazz-tinged, classical stylings of Rufus Wainwright.
Recorded and produced by Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Amy Winehouse, Rhys Lewis) in a vintage studio in Basel, Switzerland, this impressive track showcases Vey’s sublime vocals whilst exploring a heartbreaking confession of love for the one that got away. "The One" was written shortly after making the move to Berlin from a small village in Germany, and owes its melancholic beauty to the period of his life during which he struggled to find footing in the new city. After moving from job to job, unable to find a find a place to stay, his girlfriend broke up with him. This poignant and vulnerable song explores those urgent themes of loss and longing, while also carving out an emotional space for hope and redemption. The music video for this track reimagines a lonely moment of catharsis at Potsdamer Platz, where Vey had the idea to write a song of pure imaginative, visceral escape. Empty streets and an empty heart can, together, create beauty from the rich silence of a city that sleeps.
Vey will be following up with an EP this winter.
