Despite their brotherhood, Aaron and Phil Reed didn’t start playing music together until Phil left their hometown of St. Charles, Missouri to join Aaron in the unsullied mountains of the American Northwest. Since then, they have settled into the Rogue Valley as folk staples on the local circuit: from outdoor shows at the Lithia Artisans Market, to the local breweries, bars, and coffeeshops that decorate the hinterlands of southern Oregon and Siskiyou county, these boys are busy year-round.

Billing themselves as ‘familial folk from southern Oregon,’ they have crafted a sound that meshes perfectly with their adopted home - equal parts country-grit, folk-throwback, and acoustic purity. By keeping a distinctly live and performance-oriented flavor to their compositions, they extend the considerable folk and rock legacies of local favorites like Woody Guthrie and Elliott Smith while weaving in their own mark on the unique synergy of sibling harmony. Irish Hymn, the latest from Ashland’s The Brothers Reed, is a triplet-driven folk ballad that showcases the casual flat-picking of their live performances and the sweet tenor of their eminent duet.
