The memories, the regrets, the things we never said: it all adds up, and sometimes we need somewhere to put those emotions that never got fully felt. When Lizzy Gunn decides to ‘defend [her] broken heart’ - she means it.

We are allowed to mess up; we get to dust ourselves off and keep walking. Lizzy just happened to pick up her guitar and put this particular country-flavored catharsis to lyrics. With a melancholic and throaty vocal delivery, we hear the very pain she is excising, and immediately we understand: it’s a letting go where nothing is left buried.

“All the dreams that we built up
are going down in smoke
we always knew this day would come
from the very start
nothing lasts forever
not even a broken heart”— Lizzy Gunn

And with every ending is born a fresh start, and another reason to eventually sing the blues again.

Lizzy Gunn is a singer and songwriter from Los Angeles. This song is featured on our Rainy Day playlist.
