The sounds here are so warm and organic, I almost mistook the pocket for a song by Brad Mehldau; I swear they must have borrowed his upright piano for the session. There is something about the interplay here between piano, drums, and electric bass there that to me is pure magic.

It is little wonder that Marsh and Jones had some experience scoring for film and television before this collaboration: the dynamics are fantastic and the arrangement is subtle and pulsating. As an holistic piece this song works as a commentary on the choices we have made as a species:

“I’m faking that I won’t regret
breaking my own rules
but this isn’t over yet
for you and me...
Can we put down our machines
and look to each other
to hold these memories?”— DYAN

A trio with roots in Winnipeg, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles, DYAN is Alexis Marsh, Sam Jones, and Dan Dorff Jr. This song is featured on our Rainy Day playlist.
