There is quite a backstory here which is beautiful but simply not necessary. I love this track precisely because it doesn't need to be explained as anything but a roots confection of country and pop, featuring a smooth vocal, an acoustic guitar, and a Weissenborn-style lead.
The chorus melody works whether or not we know what is being said. Indeed, the listener need not trouble themselves with such things as asymmetry and may instead choose to enjoy the bouncy melody and be transported to John Mayer's back yard.
Ultimately it is left up to us whether to crack open the story like a hard candy or just swallow it whole. It goes down nice either way.
