That could almost be a drum loop sample to start out, along with some very clean electric guitar. Where this goes is something that will surprise you. The different instruments all sneak in without drama until you have natural bass, reversed guitar lines, and delicious lead guitar all working, all playing counterpoint to the beat-perfect drums.
The songwriting feels unadorned and free to explore; there are some interesting vocal asides and a lot of unselfconscious production. It's the heartfelt showcase of an emotive lyrical persona married to a stadium rock beat and that syncopated snare line.
We love that this song was left to it’s own devices.
